7 Writing Playlists On Spotify To Inspire Your Next Masterpiece

It's not a secret that a lot of writers listen to music while they write. But why is that? What is it about music that can help the writing process? And what are the best writing playlists?

For some people, music can help to drown out distractions and allows them to focus better on their writing. For some, it sets the mood and helps them to get into the right frame of mind for writing. And for others still, it simply makes the whole process more enjoyable and gets their creative juices flowing.

There are all sorts of different genres of music that can help with writing, so it really depends on what you personally enjoy and what helps you to focus. Luckily, there's no shortage of great writing playlists on platforms like Spotify, Youtube, and Apple Music.

But today we'll just focus on Spotify. Are you ready to get inspired?

1. Deep Focus by Spotify

This playlist is designed to help you focus while you write, work, or study. It features a mix of ambient and post-rock music to keep you calm and in the zone. If you find that music helps you focus while you work, then this playlist is a great place to start.

2. Creative Focus by Evandro Sudre

This playlist features 16 hours of music - enough to get you through a very long writing session! The music is a mix of post-rock and experimental, perfect for getting into a flow state.

3. Creative Writing by Spotify

A short and sweet playlist just above 2 hours with some of the best writing tracks you can find. Whether you need a quick "pick-me-up" and some motivation for a brief writing session, this mix of electronic, orchestral, and ambient tunes will do the trick.

4. IT111: In-Between Places by Illustrated Tapes and Vanessa Lovegrove

This is a truly unique playlist. And Vanessa describes it perfectly: "I’d been reading about thin places in Celtic mythology, which are places where the fabric between worlds are thinner, allowing them to converge. It made me think of that time at 3 am, when it’s dead quiet outside and you’re still awake, feeling that simultaneously everything and nothing could happen." If that's not inspiration - we don't know what is.

A fun fact: Vanessa has also created the cover image for the Book Cover Art inspiration page :)

5. Brain Food by Spotify

Exactly 100 songs to get brilliant ideas out of your head on paper (or screen). The style of this playlist is described as hypnotic electronic, so get ready to get your thoughts flowing. Just make sure not to drift away and stick to your writing task.

6. Light Academia by Anna Purchase

Light academia is a part of “academia aesthetic”, a subculture based on intellectual, cultural and university influences. The aesthetic is based on a love of learning and discovery, as well as a deep appreciation for the arts and humanities.

Warning: this 5-hour playlist may trigger nostalgic feelings.

7. Instrumental Writing Music by Ellie Spradlin

Now, this is a beast of a playlist with more than 1400 (!!!) songs and over 24 hours long. It consists mostly of instrumental movie soundtracks and is perfect for writing inspiration. Just don't forget to take some breaks!
